Saints vs. Cowboys Week 12 NFL PicksBecause Detroit has been weak for a decade and because the NFL keeps sending dogs to Dallas, the Thanksgiving Day schedule is normally laden with one-sided games, although the arrival of the NFL Network's night games has provided a little entertainment for those who aren't shut out by a cable company that doesn't carry the league's offering.

This year, however, we get New Orleans at Dallas, which thanks to the Cowboys' two straight wins under Jason Garrett and the Saints' surge, figures to distract some people from the turkey.

Maybe.

To start with, the oddsmakers don't think as much of Garrett and his reborn Cowboys as they do of the Saints, who seem to have overcome their post-Super Bowl lethargy (and the injuries that went with it). They've made the Saints 3 1/2-point favorites, which factoring in home field, means they're six points better than Dallas.

Actually, they probably are six points better than Dallas -- maybe more so. Remember that Jon Kitna is still the quarterback for the Cowboys. Remember that the new-coach factor diminishes with each game. And remember that there are holes in the Cowboys' secondary.

So while Jerry may be dreaming of winning out the season, finishing 9-7 and sneaking into the playoffs, the Saints are getting more confident weekly.

Everyone ignores the Falcons, one of three 8-2 teams in the NFL. They win by average scores, they win at home and they ...

Well, they just don't seem like a power.

But they're pretty good. So are the Packers, who already have shut out the Jets in the Meadowlands. The same Packers who are getting healthier. The same Packers who ... you get the idea.

If anyone cares, the Chargers are the fourth team this season to play two consecutive prime-time games -- they go from a West Coast Monday night to a Sunday nighter in the Eastern time zone.

Not good for body clocks. But maybe good for the W-L record. During Peyton Manning's reign of superiority, he's had more trouble with San Diego than anyone -- the Chargers have won four of five against Indy dating back to 2005. Once again, the Chargers' late season run ...
