Video: Colin White Drops Bruno Gervais With Two Punches
Halfway through the first period, the Islanders were up 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Jesse Joensuu. New Jersey's Colin White hit PA Parenteau from behind near the Devils' bench, tossing Parenteau into the boards head first. In today's NHL, it's a given that in this kind of situation a member of the opposing team should instantly come over to White and try to exact vengeance. Bruno Gervais of the Islanders tried to do just that. The key word in that sentence being 'tried.' Let's go to the tale of the tape:
Colin White: 6-4, 220lbs.
Bruno Gervais: 6-1, 205lbs.
Not a ridiculous mismatch but you can probably guess how this works out.
Devils announcer Chico Resch informs us that neither Gervais nor White are much for fighting. I'm not sure I believe the second half of that statement. It looks like Gervais was a little woozy getting up. He probably knew what time zone he was in after that hit, but I don't think he got the number of the truck that hit him.
