No one's quite sure what to expect when LeBron James makes his return to Cleveland on Thursday to face his former team. But everyone involved seems to be taking every precaution to ensure the safety and security of James and the rest of the Miami Heat.
According to a report from ESPN.com's Michael Wallace, the Heat normally release their travel schedule, pregame workout time and location and hotel location to the group of media members who cover the team for both home and away games. For the trip to Cleveland, however, Miami will not be releasing any of those details.
Whatever the itinerary for this particular trip, it's going to be an extremely short one.
Miami plays Wednesday night in Detroit and will fly out immediately afterward to arrive in Cleveland in the wee hours of the morning. With a home game against Atlanta on Saturday -- and no desire to stay longer than necessary in Cleveland -- the Heat are expected to head back home after the conclusion of Thursday night's game.
James seems to be prepared for the worst and has the same expectations as the rest of us: that it will be hostile, mean and possibly nasty once he takes the floor in front of his former fans.
"I think it's going to be tough," James said. "But I'm there to win a basketball game, and I understand how passionate fans are about sports. So I'm ready for whatever response I'm going to get."
We'll see if that's indeed the case on Thursday, in what's almost certain to be the most emotional return of a star player to his former city in the history of American sports.
