Sorry, Ladies. Atlanta Falcons third-year quarterback Matt Ryan is officially off the market. Apparently, Ryan and longtime girlfriend Sarah Marshall were engaged weeks ago, but he made the announcement last Saturday on WXIA-TV in Atlanta. Ryan, who played football at Boston College, and Marshall, a BC basketball player, have been dating for about seven years. The plan is to have the wedding during the offseason.
The Falcons selected Ryan with the third pick in the 2008 draft and he has been the starter ever since. He led Atlanta to 11 wins and the playoffs as a rookie, throwing 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. His numbers slipped in Year 2 (Football Outsiders ranked him as the NFL's No. 7 QB in '08; he ranked 13th in '09).
This season, however, Ryan has emerged as an elite quarterback. The 9-2 Falcons currently lead the NFC South and are among a handful of teams favored to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl.
I'm guessing a Lombardi Trophy would make a nice wedding present.
