UConn Big East Champions BCSDave Teggart's 52-yard field goal with 17 seconds left lifted UConn to a clutch victory over South Florida Saturday night, 19-16, giving the Huskies the Big East's automatic BCS postseason bid.

Maikon Bonani opened the game's scoring with a 42-yard field goal for South Florida, but UConn came right back with a 40-yard field goal by Teggart to tie the game.

UConn (8-4, 5-2 Big East) built a 10-3 lead at halftime on a 55-yard interception return for a touchdown by Lawrence Wilson, and then made it 13-3 in the third quarter on another Teggart field goal, this time a 22-yarder. USF closed the gap to 13-6, also in the third quarter, on a 38-yard three-pointer by Bonani.

The Huskies went back on top by 10 again on a 50-yard field goal by Teggart, but USF closed to within three, 16-13, on a 28-yard TD pass from quarterback Bobby Eveld to receiver Dontavia Bogan.

Bonani nailed a 22-yard field goal with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter to tie the score at 16-16, but UConn return specialist Robbie Frey returned the ensuing kickoff 40 yards to the UConn 40. Huskies QB Zach Frazer tossed a pair of passes to Kashif Moore and Michael Smith to move the ball to the USF 35. After a rush for no gain by Frazer and an incomplete pass, Teggart lined up for what would prove to be his game-winner, sending UConn into the post-season.

South Florida (7-5, 3-4) attempted to mount a comeback, but Eveld tossed a pair of incomplete passes as time expired, giving UConn the win.
