Andre Johnson Not Considering IR
But Andre Johnson said he has no plans to join Pro Bowl defensive end Mario Williams on the season-ending injured reserve list.
Johnson, a Pro Bowl selection each of the past four seasons, said on Wednesday he plans to play the Texans' final three games -- that despite a lingering high-ankle sprain and the team's remote postseason chances.
"The only way I probably won't (play) is if my ankle's broken," Nick Scurfield of HoustonTexans.com reported Johnson as saying Wednesday.
Johnson also said he doesn't expect the ankle to require offseason surgery.
The Texans, whose 34-28 loss to Baltimore Monday made the postseason extremely unlikely, placed Williams on injured reserve Wednesday. He had been playing despite a sports hernia in recent weeks.
"It's been a tough, tough road for him," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said as the Texans prepared to play the Tennessee Titans at LP Field in Nashville Sunday. "We were trying to work him in practice a certain way that we could get him through gameday, but I knew when we came out of Philadelphia that this thing had hit a boiling point, so to speak. The kid was really down and couldn't go.
"We had a big break between that game and this last one and he tried for everybody, but it just wasn't working out. So we'll get him well. Obviously, Mario has got a tremendous future and is a big part of this organization."
Kubiak said the surgery is scheduled for Tuesday in Philadelphia.
The Texans, who also placed guard Mike Brisiel and wide receiver David Anderson on injured reserve Wednesday, signed defensive tackle DeMario Pressley and wide receiver Derrick Townsel. The team also signed wide receiver Montez Billings and center Brett Helms to the practice squad.
The Texans' injury report Wednesday:
TE Garrett Graham (hamstring, did not participate), K Neil Rackers (r. hamstring, DNP), LB Brian Cushing (knee/finger/neck, limited), WR Andre Johnson (ankle, limited), LB Darryl Sharpton (neck, limited), LB Xavier Adibi (hamstring, full), TE Owen Daniels (hamstring, full), CB Glover Quin (hand, full), QB Matt Schaub (l. arm, full), WR Kevin Walter (knee, full) and T Eric Winston (shoulder, full).
