Xavier NadyThe Arizona Diamondbacks made a move to bolster their outfield situation, signing Xavier Nady to a one-year contract on Wednesday. The deal is worth $1.75 million, and includes an extra $1 million in incentives, according to SI.com.

Nady had 347 plate appearances for the Chicago Cubs last season, hitting .256 and belting six home runs while driving in 33 runs. His success at the plate was slowed as he had trouble recovering from his second Tommy John surgery in 2009.

Nady, 32, is a career .277 hitter who hit 45 home runs over the three seasons prior to his injury in 2009. He is projected to play left field, and is valuable to the Diamondbacks because he can also be used as a backup at first base.

Nady is the second outfielder signed by the Diamondbacks in December. The team added Wily Mo Pena on Dec. 2.
