Candice Crawford: 5 Facts About Tony Romo's Bride-to-Be
Romo, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback known as much for his dating life as his postseason struggles, has decided to settle down. The footballer popped the question to girlfriend Candice Crawford on her 24th birthday Thursday night. All things considered, it was probably one of the better birthdays for Crawford, a Dallas-area sports reporter.
While it's too early to say whether Crawford will carry on the proud tradition of Romo's former companions, jinxing the Cowboys by their very presence (maybe, as in a fairy tale, a wedding will lift the curse?), here are five things we know for sure about the future Mrs. Romo.
1. She's a Texan through and through
Crawford was born in Lubbock, Texas (home of Texas Tech) and raised in the Dallas suburbs. She is, of course, a Cowboys fan.
2. She's has a famous sibling
Crawford's big brother Chace plays Nate Archibald in the hit CW show "Gossip Girl." (They have the same eyebrows.) In an odd coincidence that makes Dallas seem like, well, "Dallas," Chace used to date former Romo squeeze Carrie Underwood, whom he dumped via text message.
3. She used to be a pageant queen
Crawford took third runner-up in both the 2003 and 2005 Miss Texas Teen USA pageants. Later, while studying journalism at the University of Missouri, Crawford won the 2008 Miss Missouri crown, and went on to compete in that year's Miss USA Pageant. (According to her bio, Crawford's biggest role model is her dad and her favorite food is cookie cake!)
4. Her rap sheet may help her fit in among the Cowboys
Back in her pageanting days, Crawford was involved in a minor scandal after she was arrested for possessing alcohol as a minor. This tiny crime pales in comparison to the waves of violence and debauchery perpetrated by the legendary Cowboys teams of the 1990s, but hey, they'll probably appreciate the effort.
5. Even without Romo, she was living the dream
Scattered among the other tidbits in Crawford's Miss USA bio is her dream job: sideline sports reporter for ESPN. While the CW affiliate in Dallas where Crawford works isn't quite the same thing, Surge Desk still has to commend her for moving so quickly up her career ladder. The 24-year-olds we know mostly work as waiters and baby sitters.
