Matt Dodge narrowly avoided losing his job after DeSean Jackson's punt return capped the Eagles' amazing comeback over the Giants Sunday, according to a report.Though Coughlin has decided to stick with the rookie Dodge as his punter and took full responsibility for the loss after the game, he reportedly found Dodge in tears in the locker room after the game and kicked him out, leaving Giants players with a "clear impression" that Dodge was going to be cut.
Coughlin had reportedly instructed Dodge to direct the last-second punt out of bounds instead of kicking to the electric Jackson. As Dodge ran off the field following the punt, Coughlin erupted on him.
Giants spokesman Pat Hanlon denied the report on Twitter, saying, "I don't know who this 'reporter' is, but I do know this story is bogus."
The incident was the worst of Dodge's rookie season, but it's not the first time his play has inspired groans. He's 31st in the league in net average and has two of his punts returned for touchdowns, which leads the league. He was drafted by the Giants in the seventh round, 221st overall, in the 2010 draft.
