Stevan Ridley has been ruled academically ineligible by the NCAA. The LSU running back and his team are appealing the decision and hope to hear an answer before the Tigers square off against Texas A&M on Jan. 7.
"This was a one-time incident," head coach Les Miles told the Associated Press. "The school has been compliant. Ridley has been compliant. We are appealing it. We are making our case."
Miles also told the AP there is no timetable set for when the NCAA will hear the appeal or announce the ruling. The Tigers will resume practice next Monday.
Ridley, a junior, is LSU's leading rusher and arguably its best offensive player. He ran for 1,042 yards and 14 touchdowns this season.
Ridley carried the ball 225 times this season. The next most among running backs for LSU are Michael Ford (41 carries), Richard Murphy (23) and Alfred Blue (20). If the Tigers are forced to go without Ridley in the Cotton Bowl, we can't be sure who would be next in line, but a split would be likely.
