Holiday Google Logo Decoded

Google knows you won't be googling on Christmas.

So the search engine rolled out its seasonal Google Doodle a few days early this morning for searchers to appreciate before the holiday arrives.

The illustrated doodle, which over eight years has become a Google tradition for special and some humorous occasions, features 17 interactive holiday portraits from across the globe. The single doodle took five artists roughly 250 hours over six months to complete.

The astute observer will notice that while the doodle does not immediately resemble the standard Google logo, the color sequence (blue, red, yellow, blue, green, red) in the holiday images match up with the classic design.

And if Google's 30-year-old doodle "guru" Michael Lopez is happy with the early release, the millions of people who use Google each day probably won't mind.

"I thought, 'Is my mom going to be available to play this on Christmas Day?'" Lopez told The Wall Street Journal. "The answer is, no, she'll be making me food!"
