Elton John, David Furnish Welcome Baby Boy: 5 Other Old Celebrity Dads
He and his partner, David Furnish, became the parents of a 7-pound, 15-ounce baby boy named Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish, born to an anonymous surrogate. Furnish is older than most new dads at 48, but at 62, John is entering fatherhood at an age when others are approaching grandfatherhood.
By the time their son hits 18, John will be 80 years old.
But in the world of celebrity, of course, age is just a number. Here are some other male celebrities still pumping out progeny well into their later years.
The Hollywood legend first became a father at the age of 34. The years, however, haven't done much to slow down the film icon professionally -- or romantically. His second wife, Dina Ruiz, gave birth to daughter Morgan Eastwood in 1996, making him a father again at 66 years old.
No surprises here: The Playboy publisher's eternal youth bolstered by modern pharmaceutical technology is no secret. But, now, he appears to be going back to being a one-woman man, a decision he's made before. He married playmate of the year Kimberly Conrad in 1985, and she gave birth to his youngest child, Cooper Bradford, in 1991. Hefner was 65.
The only other knight on this list to match Sir Elton John, former Beatle Paul McCartney was married to his first wife, Linda McCartney, for 31 years until her death from breast cancer in 1998. Afterward, he married former model and activist Heather Mills. McCartney was 61 when Mills gave birth to their daughter Beatrice in 2003.
With his trademark suspenders and glasses, broadcast journalist Larry King seemed like he was born old. But despite an aging frame, he remained active as a TV host until just a few weeks ago, and he married his seventh wife, Shawn Southwick, in a hospital room before undergoing heart surgery. She gave birth to his daughter Cannon in 2000, when King was 67 years old.
The late-night talk show host's affairs with some female employees on his staff came to light after an explosive extortion scandal in October 2009, but it's his long-term relationship with wife Regina Lasko that yielded his most recent offspring. Letterman was 57 when his son Harry was born, making him a spring chicken compared to some of the other dads on this list.
