It's Not Really Sarah Palin's Alaska Anymore, Poll Finds

Is the love affair between Sarah Palin and Alaska over?

The former governor of the "Last Frontier" and potential 2012 presidential candidate is pretty unpopular in the state that serves as a backdrop for her TLC reality show, according to a recent survey from Public Policy Polling.

In the poll, Alaskans gave an overwhelmingly cold response to Palin, with 58 percent giving her an unfavorable rating and 33 percent giving her a thumbs up. The only state among the 10 surveyed that showed less love for the "mama grizzly" was Massachusetts.

The pollsters also offered this interesting point to consider:

It's not a coincidence that the 35% of the vote Joe Miller appears to have received in the Alaska Senate race is almost identical to the 33% who have a favorable opinion of Palin. Miller allowed himself to practically become a surrogate for Palin and while that was good for letting him pull off a primary victory by the slimmest of margins it was not so good for his prospects in the general election.

Palin's popularity has also dropped among Republicans. A new CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey shows that 49 percent are "very" or "somewhat likely" to support a Palin White House run, compared with 67 percent of Republicans who in a December 2008 poll said they would support a Palin presidential bid.

Could all of this be part of the reason the Palins seem to be packing up and moving?

With cash to spare after her season on "Dancing With the Stars," Bristol Palin recently purchased a five-bedroom house in Arizona for $172,000 in cash. And word is, according to one insider, that Sarah Palin has been house hunting around Arizona herself.
