Fantasy Football Week 17 Rankings: WR

We're used to seeing names like Roddy White, Dwayne Bowe and Hakeem Nicks atop our weekly receiver rankings each week. This week, we're turning our love in a different direction.

Brandon Marshall has largely been a fantasy disappointment this year. Generally drafted as a WR1 in fantasy leagues, Marshall hasn't reached 1,000 yards yet this season, and he's only scored three times. He's been done in both by his health and the inconsistency of the Miami QB position.

However, he's had his flashes of big-time potential. Four times this season, Marshall has posted 10-catch, 100-yard games. White's accomplished that feat just three times. Bowe's only managed it twice. Nicks has just one 10-catch, 100-yard game all season. Clearly, Marshall always has the potential for a huge week, especially in PPR leagues. He's also caught fire just at the right time for fantasy owners, with two of those big games coming in each of the last two weeks.

On Sunday, he'll be facing a New England team that may take their foot off the gas pedal just a tad as they have home-field advantage locked up. Could Marshall make it three straight elite performances? I clearly think it happens.

• Bowe owners face a serious risk in playing their receiver on Sunday. Kansas City doesn't have a whole lot to play for this week, and that could lead to Bowe seeing reduced playing time. The fact that we list him as a top-25 receiver anyway really speaks to the shallow talent at the receiver position this week. Other receivers that may take some time off this week include Wes Welker, Deion Branch, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Santonio Holmes, Braylon Edwards and Johnny Knox.

• It looks like Hakeem Nicks is going to miss this week's game, and that means Mario Manningham could be primed for another big performance. Now, he did drop the ball big time a few weeks ago when he was in this exact same situation, catching just two passes for 36 yards against Washington. He'll get his chance at redemption this week, and considering he's piled up 245 yards and three TDs in his last two games, he has to be active for your fantasy championship.

• With potentially several key receivers sitting out this week, you have the opportunity to snag a nice fill-in option off free agency should you need to do so. The Texan receivers have a nice matchup this week, and it isn't a given that Andre Johnson will be ready to play. Jason Avant has a great matchup against the Cowboys, and he should see more playing time than usual this week.
