MTV wanted "Jersey Shore" star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi to drop down in a ball as part of a stunt to ring in 2011 in the Big Apple. But organizers for the New Year's Eve event in Times Square denied the network's request, saying the logistics just weren't there.
Here's more from The New York Times:
Alas, it wasn't meant to be. But the cable channel still plans on having the pint-size celeb drop down in a ball -- it'll just happen in New Jersey.MTV's original plans had called for Ms. Polizzi to be placed inside a ball that would have been lowered in Times Square before the official countdown to 2011 on Friday night. ... But on Wednesday the Times Square Alliance and Countdown Entertainment, which organize the Times Square celebration, halted those plans. "It was never intended or requested for Snooki to be in the actual New Year's Eve Ball in Times Square," the groups said in a statement. "The request to have her in a separate ball on a set-back roof came too late and was too impractical to fit in to our outdoor events."
Again, from the Times:
And it sounds like the stunt will probably be taped today and aired tomorrow since MTV had to clear out of the area by Friday. (TMZ has pics of the preparations here.)[A Seaside Heights official said the borough] received and approved MTV's application for a permit there on Wednesday, and that preparations were already under way to construct Ms. Polizzi's descending ball apparatus at the "Jersey Shore" house.
