For the second consecutive month, the New York Knicks' Landry Fields and the Los Angeles Clippers' Blake Griffin were named the rookies of the month for their respective conferences.Fields made his greatest impact on the defensive end, as he ranks first among Eastern Conference rookies with 1.23 steals per game. He was also second in scoring with 8.8 points per game and third in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per game. Fields started all 13 games and the Knicks went 8-5 in that stretch.
Out west, Griffin has been phenomenal all season as he leads all rookies in scoring (23.0 points per game) and on the glass (13.5 rebounds per game). He's also second in assists with 3.9 per game. The Clippers went 7-8 in December, but won five of their last seven games in the month.
Griffin, however, may have made his biggest impact on the highlight reels. Few, if any, players in the league have had as many thunderous slams as Griffin has this season. Does such ferocity make him the best rookie? Not necessarily as his numbers speak for themselves. But it's fun to watch.
