Martin Brodeur, Johan Hedberg to Start Sharing Time in Net for Devils
This will not be one of those. Slowed by injury earlier this year, and dogged by ineffectiveness and a slew of losses, Brodeur told the media Monday that he will start sharing time in net with veteran backup Johan Hedberg.
The change comes after Brodeur allowed three goals on seven shots in a loss to Carolina Saturday night. Hedberg started the night before, playing very well in a 3-1 win over the Atlanta Thrashers.
Both goalies have five wins this season, with Brodeur's five coming in 27 games, and Hedberg's in only 17.
Neither goalie has stellar numbers, with Brodeur's save percentage at .882 and Hedberg .899.
"I don't deserve to be in there when you don't win," Brodeur told the Newark Star-Ledger. "That's the bottom line. I've been winning all my career and now it's been a little tougher. So it's normal. If this works, good. It helps out the team."
Coach Jacques Lemaire has named Hedberg the starter for Tuesday's home game against Minnesota.
