INDIANAPOLIS -- Somewhat quietly, Adam Vinatieri has had perhaps his best season since joining the Indianapolis Colts five years ago.

On Wednesday, he was named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Vinatieri, the Colts' kicker and a 15-year NFL veteran, converted three of three field goals, including a 43-yard game-winner as time expired, in the Colts' 23-20 victory over the Tennessee Titans in the regular-season finale at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Against the Titans, Vinatieri made field goals from 48, 44 and 43 yards, and the game-winner was the 23rd of his career in the final minute of regulation of overtime.

Vinatieri missed much of last season, including the entire postseason, because of leg injuries. This season, he converted 26 of 28 field goals and 51 of 51 extra points, finishing second in the AFC and third in the NFL with 129 points.

He has been named AFC Special Teams Player of the Week 12 times. He also received the honor in November of this season, and eight times as a member of the New England Patriots from 1996-2005.
