efensive tackle Ndamukong Suh was selected a Pro Bowl starter as a rookie. But he won't play in the game. The Lions announced Wednesday that Suh needs shoulder surgery and, as a result, won't in the Pro Bowl.
"My thinking (on surgery) was just to make sure I was 100 percent healthy going into the off-season program and to be ready for March and so forth," Suh said. "I truly wanted to play in the Pro Bowl, which is a great honor and opportunity. It came down to making a decision to play in the Pro Bowl or to have surgery as soon as possible and begin rehab in order to help my team next year achieve our goals of getting into the playoffs and competing for a championship."
Suh added, "I will still plan to attend the Pro Bowl and support my teammate Calvin Johnson."
Suh, the second pick in the 2010 draft, led all rookies and all defensive tackles with 10 sacks this season. He was the first Lions rookie to be named to the Pro Bowl since Barry Sanders, and the only rookie to be named a Pro Bowl starter this year.
