It's no surprise to see Pierre Thomas' name show up on the weekly injury report. He's been a walking injury report all season long. Though I suppose "walking" is the wrong word to use. The Saints announced on Wednesday that Thomas' ankle will hold him out of the playoffs. And guess what? That's not all the news we have to report on the Saints. They also announced that Chris Ivory will need surgery on his ankle and will not be available throughout the playoffs.
That means only one thing: Reggie Bush and Julius Jones are going to get the carries this weekend against the Seahawks. Take that for what it's worth. To be fair, if you are in a fantasy playoff challenge this weekend you could certainly do worse than Reggie Bush, who managed over 100 yards from scrimmage in Week 17 against the Bucs.
To be honest with you, in this matchup against the Seahawks I would probably put Bush as the fourth or fifth most valuable running back this weekend. That has to mean something, right?
Quarterback
Michael Vick, Eagles - The Eagles insist that Vick (quad) will play this weekend and Vick himself went as far to say that he will be 100 percent. I still think from a fantasy standpoint you are probably better off going with Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers, but obviously Vick has the ability to out-score both players, despite his recent struggles. Though the matchup against the Packers defense isn't one to be desired.
Running Back
Joseph Addai, Colts - It appears that Addai will not be 100 percent this weekend against the Jets. So not only does he have to worry about his health and the matchup against the Jets, he also has to worry about how well Dominic Rhodes is actually running the ball, believe it or not. Rhodes is averaging five-plus yards per carry over the last two games while Addai is at just under four yards per carry. Rhodes also carried the ball five more times than Addai did in that span, which now leads me to believe that he'll wind up with more touches against the Jets. Addai is likely a fool's gold play in this fantasy week.
Wide Receiver
Dwayne Bowe, Chiefs - The Chiefs reported on Wednesday that Bowe was dealing with some sort of illness, but were quite confident that he'd be ready to suit up against the Ravens. I'd be a bit worried about picking Bowe over the likes of Greg Jennings and probably even Reggie Wayne this week. Not only are the Ravens playing strong defense, but the Chiefs have struggled mightily in their passing attack.
Marques Colston, Saints - Colston practiced fully on Wednesday and is expected to play a complete game against the Seahawks this weekend. That's good news, as Colston torched the Seahawks for two touchdowns and 100-plus yards in their Week 11 matchup. He's a high-end play and should be able to find the end zone yet again on Saturday.
Tight End
Jimmy Graham, Saints - Graham did not practice for the Saints on Wednesday and is questionable for Saturday's game. If you're planning on rolling with Graham you might want to keep yourself updated throughout Friday afternoon. I would rather play a healthier option, but in a draft-style league he might be the best option you have at this point so follow the updates.
