PASADENA, Calif. (AP) -- As a kid growing up in a bad Brooklyn neighborhood, Mike Tyson was fascinated by the pigeons that flocked around his apartment building. The birds, considered a dirty nuisance to most people, were beautiful to him.
The former heavyweight champion says they're the first thing he ever loved in his life, and he reconnects with his childhood passion in "Taking on Tyson," a six-part docudrama that debuts March 6 on Animal Planet.
Tyson says he thinks the show will give him a chance to broaden the horizons of people who don't know anything about pigeons.
He takes pride in having his birds appear clean and healthy, because as he says, if the birds are that way then their owner must be, too.
