Gary Brackett Fined $35K for Hit
That may not be the case in the future.
Brackett, the Colts' starting middle linebacker and defensive captain, on Friday was fined $35,000 by the NFL for a hit on Tennessee Titans long snapper Ken Amato this past Sunday, the Associated Press reported Friday.
Brackett was called for an illegal blindside block on Amato, whose helmet was cracked during a play in which Colts safety Antoine Bethea returned a missed field goal on the final play of the first half.
It was Brackett's third fine of the season for an illegal hit. Jay Glazier of Fox Sports reported that the league warned Brackett he could be suspended for another unnecessary roughness penalty.
"I don't think it was malicious at all," Brackett said earlier this week.
Titans coach Jeff Fisher earlier this week on his weekly radio show disagreed.
"It was probably one of the most vicious hits that I've ever seen, and then to come in (Monday) morning and have the equipment guys bring his helmet to me and the helmet was cracked," Fisher said. "You can imagine the impact."
The Colts will play host to the New York Jets in an AFC playoff game at Lucas Oil Stadium in downtown Indianapolis Saturday.
