Shawn MichaelsOn "Raw" Monday night, it was announced that Shawn Michaels is the first inductee of this year's class for the WWE Hall of Fame.

The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on April 2 at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, the night before WrestleMania XXVII.

Michaels made a surprise appearance on Raw, where he laid out Alberto Del Rio with his signature Sweet Chin Music superkick. Afterward, he wrote on his Twitter page, "Surprise surprise!!! Seriously, thanks to all of u for making my career such a joy. I will carry those moments w/ me all my life. Thx 4 sharing it w/ me."

Michaels is widely considered one of the greatest stars in WWE history and arguably one of the greatest in-ring talents ever in professional wrestling.

During his 22-year career, Michaels was a four-time World Champion and three-time Intercontinental Champion with WWE.

What set him apart was his stellar matches, especially on the biggest of all stages, WrestleMania, where he has stole the show on multiple occasions with remarkable performances. That has earned him the nickname "Mr. WrestleMania" with his greatest match at the event coming two years ago against The Undertaker at WrestleMania XXV in Houston.

Michaels was last in the ring at WrestleMania XXVI on March 28, 2010, when he lost a Streak vs. Career Match against The Undertaker.

He has since vowed to remain retired from wrestling and never have another match, something that many of his peers before him have promised, only to then make a return to the ring.

With him going into the Hall of Fame this year, it leads to speculation that he will have a role at WrestleMania XXVII. While he likely will not have a match, he could serve as the special referee for one of the show's main event matches.
