The smart-phone wars are heating up. In a news conference today, Verizon finally shared the details about its new iPhone deal, which had been the subject of heated speculation for months.

Surge Desk tells you what you need to know about the Verizon iPhone.

What'll it cost me?
The 16 GB iPhone 4 price will start at $199.99 if you sign up for a two-year wireless contract. It'll be $299 for the 32 GB model. Those prices match those of AT&T. But we don't know yet what sorts of data plans Verizon will offer or what they'll cost.

When can I get it?
Pre-orders for current Verizon customers will start Feb. 3. The phone will go on sale for everyone else Feb. 10.

What are the tech specs?
The new iPhone isn't an entirely new beast. It has the same "A4 processor, Retina Display, FaceTime, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, HD video recording and a 3-axis gyroscope," ZDNet says. The battery life seems basically the same, too.

But there are some differences from the AT&T version. It will run a different operating system, called iOS 4.2.5. The biggest advantage that Verizon has is the new "personal hotspot" feature: You will be able to tether up to five other devices to it to use the 3G network -- so your computer or iPad can surf the Web via your iPhone if there isn't any Wi-Fi around, say. Tech bloggers are pretty excited about these personal hotspots.

The downsides: Unlike the AT&T iPhone, you won't be able to talk on the phone while using 3G for data. Also, the Verizon iPhone isn't capable of global roaming.

How popular will it be?
One analyst told Bloomberg that he thinks Verizon may move a whopping 13 million iPhones in the first year.
