As the Jets prepare to face the Patriots in Sunday's divisional-round playoff game, they learned Wednesday that they'll be without right tackle Damien Woody for the game and, should they advance, for the remainder of the playoffs.Jets coach Rex Ryan announced during his Wednesday news conference that Woody had a torn left Achilles tendon and would have surgery to repair it Wednesday afternoon. He has been placed on season-ending injured reserve.
Woody missed the final three games of the regular season with an injury to his right knee, but he returned to play in last week's wild-card game in Indianapolis. Ryan said Woody suffered the Achilles injury on the final drive of that game Saturday night.
"It's tough, because he worked his tail off to get back, and then last week, he did such a great job against (Robert) Mathis," Ryan said. "Now, he's getting ready to face his old team up in New England, so it's tough. It's a tough loss."
Wayne Hunter, who filled in for Woody in those final three regular-season games, and whom Ryan called "the best backup tackle in the league," will fill in for Woody on Sunday in Foxborough.
