Rafael Nadal and Caroline Wozniacki were given the top seeds for the 2011 Australian Open that begins Jan. 17. It is the second major in a row both Nadal and Wozniacki are seeded No. 1.

The men's and women's seeds follow the ATP and WTA rankings respectively.

Defending champion Roger Federer is seeded No. 2, followed by Novak Djokovic, Robin Soderling and last year's runner-up, Andy Murray.

Nadal, the 2009 Australian Open champion, won three of four majors last year but fell short at the Australian Open, where he had to retire in his quarterfinal match against Murray with a knee injury. Nadal claimed a career Grand Slam at the U.S. Open and will hold all four majors with a title at Melbourne Park this year. Nadal, 24, seeks his 10th career Grand Slam and his second Australian Open.

The American seeds on the men's side of the draw are No. 8 Andy Roddick, No. 16 Mardy Fish, No. 18 Sam Querrey and No. 20 John Isner.

On the women's side, Wozniacki enters a major with the top seed for the second time in her career. The 20-year-old Dane finished last season ranked No. 1 but has yet to win a Grand Slam. Last year's champion, Serena Williams, will not play due to injury.

The only American seed on the women's side is Venus Williams at No. 4.

The official draw will be announced on Friday at Melbourne Park.
