Antonio DanielsThe Texas Legends, NBA D-League affiliate of the Dallas Mavericks, announced today that veteran guard Antonio Daniels will return to the lineup after sitting out more than a month with a torn ligament in his hand.

With Daniels in the Legends' lineup, head coach Nancy Lieberman was able to start the season with a solid 6-3 record, but the team has since lost eight of 12 with the NBA veteran out of action.

Daniels was a bit of a mystery going into this year's D-League season as he sat out all of last year rehabbing a knee injury and, at the age of 35, was the oldest player in D-League history. Despite having played in 868 regular season NBA games in his career, many wondered if the point guard still had what it took to make one last run on his way to a call-up.

The 12-year NBA veteran has proven thus far that he still has what it takes, however, as he's averaging 17.0 points, 8.2 assists and 5.2 rebounds through his first nine games in the D-League. Daniels, who currently ranks as the eighth best D-League prospect according to Draft Express, currently boasts a spectacular 3.7 assist-to-turnover ratio and is second in the league with a 22.8 PER.

The Frisco-based Legends are one of the most interesting from an NBA standpoint as, along with Daniels, they boast three other call-up candidates. Former first round picks Joe Alexander and Sean Williams start in the frontcourt and have made solid cases for themselves if an NBA team is looking for a big man while point guard Justin Dentmon played very well in Daniels' absence.

Alexander, the eighth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft by the Milwaukee Bucks, is averaging 20.4 points and 10.5 rebounds while showing NBA teams he deserves another look. Williams, the 17th overall selection by the New Jersey Nets in 2007, is showing why he was drafted so high as he's currently averaging a solid double-double with 15.3 points and 10.0 rebounds while swatting a league-best 3.3 blocks per game. Dentmon, formerly known as an undersized shooting guard, took control of the point guard spot while Daniels was on the mend and is currently scoring 22.5 points per game to go along with 6.0 assists this month.

Daniels' first game back in the lineup for the Legends will be Friday night against the Maine Red Claws.
