The Colorado Avalanche can't seem to stay healthy.

The team has announced that forward Tomas Fleischmann will miss the rest of the 2010-11 season.

Fleischmann scored 21 points in 22 games for the Avalanche after being acquired in a trade with Washington.

He has been diagnosed with pulmonary embolism.

"The nature of his condition requires him to be on blood thinners for several months and he will be unable to play hockey during this time," Avalanche team physician Dr. David Mellman said in a team press release. "Tomas' condition was discovered this afternoon when he was evaluated for shortness of breath."

Fleischmann's loss means the Avalanche will need to find more scoring from the forward position.

Adrian Dater of The Denver Post notes that forward Peter Mueller -- out all season with a concussion -- has been seen in the locker room as of late, but there's no definitive word whether he's close to coming back.
