A dead spot on Hisense Court caused quite a stir at the Australian Open, requiring some impromptu handiwork to fix the spot.
Apparently, the problem was caused by a pocket of air beneath the court. To fix it, officials needed a 20-minute delay where they drilled holes in the court and jumped up and down on the spot to squeeze out the air.
As Andy Roddick said on ESPN, "They got Bob Vila on standby for that one, huh?" Ladies and gentlemen, he'll be here all week. (Or not -- he was bounced in the quarterfinals last year and struggled at first on Friday so his time could be running out.)
But enough bad jokes and boring SCIENCE. Check out this humorous video:
So how are people taking the news? Well, ESPN joked about it -- even Roddick got a good laugh despite playing a four-set match on the court before it was fixed. But a lot of moms are less thrilled. Here's a compilation of moms reacting to Dead Space.
