The Angels have publicly admitted that they have begun discussing a long-term deal with staff ace Jered Weaver, but based on the owner Arte Moreno's comments negotiations may not go all that smoothly.Weaver, who led the American League in strikeouts last year, is two years away from free agency and is represented by Scott Boras.
The superagent hardly ever has his clients take hometown discounts, so its easy to envision things getting contentious between Boras and the Angels, especially given that there are already seems to be bad blood between the two parties.
"My mother told me when you have nothing nice to say about a person, you shouldn't say anything at all," Moreno told the Orange County Register when asked about dealing with Boras.
Weaver, 28, went 13-12 with a 3.01 ERA for the Angels last season, earning an All-Star appearance and finishing fifth in AL Cy Young voting. The right-hander boasts a 64-39 career record and a 3.55 ERA. He is not the only Boras client on the Angels roster. First baseman Kendry Morales is also represented by him.
