PERTH, Australia -- An official says wildfires that tore across the outskirts of an Australian city have destroyed at least 41 homes and damaged another 19.
Western Australian state Fire and Emergency Services Authority Chief Operations Officer Craig Hynes told reporters Monday that in addition to the property damage, a firefighter was injured, but not seriously.
The authority's spokesman, Alan Gale, says firefighters hope to soon contain the two fires, which have burned since late Saturday north and southeast of Perth in Western Australia.
