At one time, the three were on the same side. Harvey and Bob Weinstein were producers on Moore's 2004 blockbuster documentary "Fahrenheit 9/11," and their company, Miramax, funded the film. The Weinsteins also helped fight to release the film when Disney tried to block it.
But now Michael Moore has filed suit, claiming that the Weinsteins' use of "creative accounting" robbed him of "Fahrenheit 9/11" profits he was entitled to according to their contract. He claims he is owed nearly $3 million.
The lawsuit has split Twitter into two camps, it seems: those who think Moore is a hypocrite and those who can't stand either party in the suit.
Conservatives are lashing out at Moore, claiming that his suit is hypocritical because his career has been built on exposing greedy corporations.
If Michael Moore hates profits and capitalism so much, why sue to get it? http://ow.ly/3SnYR
Michael Moore to sue Weinsteins over FARENHEIT 9/11 profits. Capitalism is alive and well uh, Michael?
Michael Moore suing for more money after making $19.8m on 'F9/11.' Hypocritical coming from the guy who complains about big corp. profits.
Caplitalism does nothing for Michael Moore, except allow him to sue someone for money that he says he should have been paid.
Michael Moore suing for more profit is hysterical. Unless he lives on 30K a year and donates the rest he's a hypocrite. Anyone else I'd back
One tweeter suggests a way that Moore could respond to the critics.
@MMFlint if u win the lawsuit it would be nice to donate it to help the people hurting the most. Should shut up all of the negative news
There's also a strong contingent of people who wish that both sides could lose this battle.
A lawsuit you'd like both sides to lose: Michael Moore sues Harvey Weinstein http://bit.ly/dUfBgI
Michael Moore is suing the Weinsteins. Judge , please hit both sides with punitive damages, JUST BECAUSE.
Surge Desk just wishes that this person hadn't put this image in our head.
In lieu of going to court, I think Michael Moore & Harvey Weinstein should just Jell-O wrestle to the death.
One was tickled by the Weinsteins' lawyer's claim that the suit is "bologna."
ohhh it's funny when professional people say hilariously adorable things. Weinstein's lawyer is like "his claims are baloney" BALONEY.
