Demaryius ThomasWhen he was healthy, wide receiver Demaryius Thomas showed exactly why the Broncos were excited to snag him with the 22nd pick in the 2010 draft. Unfortunately for the Broncos, he wasn't healthy that often as he missed significant time with a series of leg injuries.

Those injury problems just got a lot more severe. The Broncos confirmed via Twitter that Thomas has torn an Achilles tendon while working out. The expected rehab will take six-to-eight months, which means that there is a pretty good chance he'll begin the 2011 season (if there is a season) on the physically-unable-to-perform list.

The NFL and players' union's collective bargaining disputes may also cause some problems for Thomas. There is plenty of incentive for Thomas to get his surgery taken care of quickly, as his NFL-provided health care will go away if there is a lockout. And if there is a lockout, Thomas will not be allowed to rehab from his injury at the Broncos' facilities.

The Broncos are relatively solid at wide receiver with Brandon Lloyd coming off of an excellent 2010 season (and under contract for a bargain price for 2011). Eddie Royal is also recovering from surgery for a hip injury, but he is expected to be healthy before training camp.
