Maryland Promoters Jake Smith, Scott Wagner Join Forces
The card will feature Olympic style, open class boxing with some of the premiere amateurs around, many of whom appear to be destined for promising professional careers.
Smith and Wagner are considered to be among the elite promoters in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. area, having played host to more than 150 successful shows during the last 10 years.
Each has showcased elite talent on his cards, including fighters who progressed to become world champions, such as former titlist Hasim Rahman.
Perceived to be rivals in the past, Smith and Wagner are, in actuality, longtime friends who have wanted to work together for years.
"Scott and I have always been close, and I have the utmost respect for him," said Smith. "He built a franchise at Michael's with the Ballroom Boxing series, and I've also promoted all of my cards in the area. So together, I really think we are going to make a major impact."
Like Smith, Wagner is eager to see their mutual endeavor come to fruition.
"They always said two heads are better than one. We have completely different methods of promotion, which is a thing of beauty," said Wagner.
"Because there are so many different angles from which we can approach it," said Wagner. "It's definitely going to be exciting to see what we'll come up with collectively."
Doors open at 6:30, with the first bell scheduled for 8 p.m.
Michael's Eighth Avenue is located at 7220 Grayburn Drive in Glen Burnie, MD. Tickets start at $30 and can be ordered by calling 410-766-7474.
In addition to $30 general admission tickets, VIP tables of ten are on sale from $350.
