The team has said his recovery is expected to take six to eight months, putting his availability into question for the scheduled start of next season.
Thomas sent out a Tweet just before having the operation.

The workout mishap is the latest injury to befall Thomas, whose rookie season was impacted considerably by a series of ailments.

He aggravated the injury during the first week of training camp, missing the rest of the team's summer workouts and the regular season opener.
When healthy, Thomas flashed tremendous potential, including in his Week 2 debut against Seattle, when he had a team-leading eight receptions for 97 yards and a touchdown. But he later missed another game after suffering a concussion, and a subsequent ankle sprain cost him four more games.
