Tracy Rocker Lands Job as Titans' Defensive Line Coach
Rocker, the defensive line coach at Auburn the past two seasons, is replacing Jim Washburn, who left to join the Philadenelphia Eagles in the same position last month.
Former Titans coach Jeff Fisher targeted Rocker as the replacement at the time, Jim Wyatt of the Tennessean reported, adding that Fisher recommended Rocket to new coach Mike Munchak.
"I really like the way Tracy has worked his way up the coaching ladder after being such a successful player," Munchak said in a statement released by the Titans. "He has shown the ability to develop players at all of his stops, which is a testament to him being a great teacher. He is a rare combination of a great player who becomes a great teacher.
"He has a passion for the game and has shown the ability to relate to his players."
Rocker won the Lombardi Award at Auburn in 1988. The past two seasons, he coached defensive tackle Nick Fairley, who is expected to be a Top 10 selection in the 2011 NFL Draft.
"I felt good when I talked to Coach Munchak,'' Rocker said, "because he has the same idea. It's about working, and not about talking. My goal is to come in and carve my own niche. And it is ... about getting the Titans going in the right direction.
"The No. 1 thing is I am always looking for leadership ... and the next is to go to work. Stop talking and get to work.''
