Wisconsin Democrats Found, and Their Best Western Has an Indoor Water Park

Fourteen Wisconsin Democratic lawmakers went on the lam today, staging a protest against Republican Gov. Scott Walker's bill that would eliminate collective bargaining rights for most state workers. Late in the day, however, they were discovered to be holed up a Best Western hotel in Rockford, Ill.

As they are out of state, they cannot be forced to return to participate in an open session. That means that Walker's efforts to hold a vote on the measure that would dramatically increase the amount that state workers must pay into pension and health plans cannot proceed.

Water slide action
According to the hotel's website, the indoor pool at the hotel is "closed until further notice." The outdoor pool, meanwhile, isn't much good to anybody considering the expected high temperature on Friday in Rockford will be around 46 degrees. But one hopes that the Wisconsin legislators still brought their swimsuits, because on the hotel's property, the CoCo Key Water Resort offers indoor fun that includes four water slides and private poolside cabanas.

Free Wi-Fi!
Legislators who tweet or want to keep up on the latest information on the Egypt-like protests being staged in Madison will be happy that the Best Western Clock Tower Resort offers free Wi-Fi.

Satellite TV
While it might be tempting to follow local newscasts, the cable and satellite options at the Best Western could also come in handy if this stand-off lasts more than a few days.

It's unclear just how many of the amenities the Democratic lawmakers were able to take advantage of, however. Late word has it that the group has left the Best Western after being discovered there.
