FanHouse has a Fernando Montiel vs. Nonito Donaire live blog for round-by-round update for one of the top boxing fights of the year.

The main event will start a little after 10:30PM ET.

Round 1.
Donair commands the center of the ring at the start, but Montiel throws and misses the first punch -- a jab. Donaire lands a right-left. Donaire shakes Montiel with a hard left and then a hard right. Montiel stands his ground. Donaire lands a hard left to the midsection that follows a right to the head. Donaire lands a jab. Monitel has not thrown another punch with intent. Monitel lands an up-jab. Hard left hook to the body and then to the head by Donaire. Donair'es round, 10-9.


Round 2.
Again, Donaire takes over the ring-center. Hard straight right hand and another by Donaire. Montiel has felt Donaire's power. Left hook by Montiel. Jab by Donaire. Montiel comes forward. Donaire retreats. Two nice jabs from Montiel. Double-left hook by Montiel. Left hook by Montiel counters a right by Donaire. STUNNING LEFT HOOK FREEZES MONTIEL AS IT COMES OVER A LAZY RIGHT HAND. DONAIRE LANDS A RIGHT UPPERCUT BEFORE MONTIEL LANDS FLAT ON HIS BACK. LEGS TWITCHING. He rises, but falls to the ground and rises again. Donaire follows Montiel to the ropes, lands a a left hook, and then, referee Russell Mora follows him to his own corner, he's still shaky. Mora waves an end to the fight DONAIRE WINS BY SECOND-ROUND KNOCKOUT.





Mike Jones (24-0, 18 KOs), Philadelphia, by unanimous decision over Jesus Soto-Karass (24-6-3, 16 KOs), Los Mochis Sinaloa, Mex., welterweights (147 pounds), 12 rounds for the WBC Continental Americas, WBO NABO and NABA titles.


Referee: Kenny Bayless

Judges: Duane Ford, Robert Hoyle and Ricardo Ocasio had it 115-113, 116-112, and, 117-111, respectively, for the winner, by unanimous decison, Mike Jones.

Round 1.
In the rematch of Jones disputed unanimous decision in November, Jones comes out on his toes. Soto-Karass pursues and fires a couple of nice, hard body shots with the right and left. Jones is being booed for his movement. Soto-Karass lands nicely to the midsection during an exchange. Three body blows by Soto-Karass. Nice double-left to the body and head by Jones. Wicked pair of body shots by Soto-Karass. Soto-Karass comes over the top with a nice right hand and continues to pressure. Soto-Karass finishes an exchange with a left to the head. Soto-Karass round, 10-9.


Round 2.
More of the same from the fighters, Soto-Karass chasing, Jones attempting to box. Soto-Karass digs down to the body every time Jones gets close. Jones continues to jab and occasionally stand and trade, but the perception could be that Soto-Karass' pressure is being effective. Soto-Karass lands a jab and another. Jones doubles the jab and comes over the top with a right. Nice exchange along the ropes, with Jones getting the better of it. Jones jabs to the body and head and does so again. Jones fires two rights to the head and a left uppercut. Jones' round, 10-0; Even 19-19

Round 3.
Jones wins two early exchanges and dances away. Jones jab has become more effective and is landing more cleanly. Clash of heads, Soto-Karass is cut over the left eye and paws at it. Jones targets the eye with the jab, but takes a wicked left to the body. Two, three hard left jabs to the head, and referee Kenny Bayless stops the action to allow a ringside doctor time to observe the cut. Fight continues. Jones continues to jab and move effectively. Soto-Karass is cut over both eyes. Bleeding badly. Nice exchange won by Jones which gets the crowd going. Nice left uppercut and right hand by Jones. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones, 29-28


Round 4.
Confusion in the corner of Soto-Karass. Bayless tells his corner that one of the cuts was caused by a punch, which, if the fight ends, would be considered a knockout for Jones. They continue. Crowd is into it. Jones is boxing, landing the jab and the right and the left, Soto-Karass is coming forward and throwing to the body. They trade left hands to the head. Jones moves away. Jones lands a jab and blocks four punches by Soto-Karass. Three straight jabs by Jones. Jones lands a right and a left, then takes a left hand that is low. Soto-Karass shakes Jones with a hard right hand. Jones is back on his toes. Jones lands a wicked uppercut but Soto-Karass keeps coming. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones, 39-37.


Round 5.
Jones steps in with a hard right and a left uppercut and moves away. Soto-Karass misses with a left and a right. Jones lands a right uppercut and two jabs. Nice right, left, right by Jones. More jabbing and moving by Jones. Good boxing by Jones, who fires and lands a hard, left-right, left combination. Double-jab followed by a right from Jones. Three jabs and a right to the body by Jones. Double-left hook to the body and head by Jones. Two hard right uppercuts followed by a right close another good round for Jones. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones, 49-46.


Round 6.
Soto-Karass still is coming, but Jones stands his ground early and blasts away with both hands to the head and body. Jones' face is displaying some swelling beneath his eyes. Jones and Soto-Karass swap shots to the body. Nice up-jab from Soto-Karass. Nice overhand right by Soto-Karass, but he takes a left. Hard right hand to the face by Soto-Karass along the ropes. Jones takes it well. Soto-Karass wants to mix it up, but Jones won't oblige. The blood from Soto-Karass' face is all over the white portion of Jones' white, burgundy and black shorts. Soto-Karass' round, 10-9; Jones 58-56.


Round 7.
Soto-Karass is applying more pressure, with a nice body attack and two up-jabs. A clash of heads causes pause by Soto-Karass, who takes a right hand over the top when the action resumes. Four straight jabs by Jones. Nice right to the body by Soto-Karass. Jones lands three jabs but takes a right and then a left to the body. Jones goes back to his bicycle and jabbing and moving. Jab, and a three-punch combination to the body by Jones. Three more jabs by Jones. Six straigh jabs and a right uppercut by Jones. Soto-Karass lands a right before the bell. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones 68-65.


Round 8.
Soto-Karass has given Jones too many long stretches to box at a distance from behind his jab. Jones jumps in with a hard right and escapes retaliation. More jabbing by Jones. Wicked right uppercut by Jones is answered by a hard over hand left. Two bludgeoning body shots by Jones, but Soto-Karass answers. More jabbing by Jones, but he takes a left hook to the head. Jones closes by jabbing to the head and body and then nailing Soto-Karass with a left, right, left combination. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones 78-74.


Round 9.
Jones wins three early exchanges in close while standing his ground. Jones ends a fourth with a hard right hand. Soto-Karass still is coming forward and lands two hard body shots with either hand. Jones fires a jab and a right-lef to the body. Soto-Karass beckons him to come in and fight, dropping his hands. Hard overhand right by Soto-Karass along the ropes. Hard left hook to the body by Soto-Karass. Nice left hook to the body by Soto-Karass. Nice right hand and a left by Soto-Karass. Soto-Karass, 10-9; Jones 87-84.


Round 10.
Soto-Karass aimes his eyes at Jones' midsections and drives blows there. Jones is game, however, jabbing to force Soto-Karass backward. Nice overhand right by Jones. Three jabs by Jones. Six unanswered jabs from Jones. Seven. Eight. Nine. 10. Hard rright hand by Jones, who has Soto-Karass retreating with his hands down. Blood streaming profusely from Soto-Karass left eye, covering the left side of his face. Bayless stops the action to allow a doctor's review, and the fight continues. Soto-Karass digs two lefts to the body. They trade jabs. Jones comes forward landing three hard rights, the last being the head-swiveling variety. Jones nails Soto-Karass with four unanswered punches along the ropes near Soto-Karass' corner as the round ends. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones 97-93.


Round 11.
Jones has Soto-Karass in trouble early after a series of vicious punches punctuated by a fierce, right uppercut that bobbles Soto-Karass' head. Jones eases up on Soto-Karass, whose face is a mask of crimson. Hard left hook from Jones. Soto-Karass' eyes appear to be nearly shut. Soto-Karass' punches appear to lack steam. Jones is on his toes, but on the ropes, lands a left--right uppercut combination and dances away. Jones continues to box and move relatively unhindered for the round's remainder. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones 107-102.


Round 12.
Soto-Karass is coming forward and giving it all that he has. He wins an early exchange but Jones comes bck and wins the second. Jones goes back to boxing and jabbing. Jones lands four unanswered blows before taking a hard right. Jones gets nailed by a hard right. Four jabs by Jones. Two more jabs by Jones. Soto-Karass tries but can't land anything significant. Jones continues to jab unhindered against the now plodding, steamless Soto-Karass and maintains the momentum to the bell. Jones' round, 10-9; Jones 117-111.
