New Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Cliff Lee threw in a bullpen session last week, but lasted just eight pitches because of a mildly strained muscle in his side. On Monday, Lee said that he is "perfectly fine" and no longer behind the rest of the pitching staff in regard to his spring readiness.
Lee said that he feels no pain or discomfort and is on target to be ready to start the season.
"We still have plenty of time and I feel fine," Lee said. "It's a non-issue. It was very minor. It's not that big a deal. It's really nothing."
Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro stated that if this were the regular season Lee might miss one start, but Amaro fully expects that the injury will be a "non-issue" come April.
Lee's current average draft position is 38.03 and he's typically the fourth or fifth starting pitcher selected in drafts; behind Roy Halladay, Tim Lincecum and Felix Hernandez. With this news of good health, fantasy baseball owners should feel safe taking Lee in the early third round.
