Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker delivered what was billed as a "fireside chat" regarding his highly contentious plan to strip state workers of collective bargaining rights. For the past week, large, angry protests have gripped Madison, and 14 Democratic legislators have fled the state rather than give the governor the needed quorum numbers required to move his bill forward. It was before this dramatic backdrop that Walker delivered his remarks. Watch:
How did the governor's remarks go over? Well, some on Twitter compared it with another speech delivered today:
Scot Walker sounds like Muammar Gaddafi - blaming outside agitators for problems of his own making. #wiunion
Could be close, not all evidenced parsed, but I think Gov. Walker told as many untruths than Gaddafi in dueling speeches today #wiunion
Some Twitter users pointed out that any likeness to FDR's national addresses was purely metaphoric:
Scott Walker decided against a fireside chat because he didnt want to ask a Union firefighter for a fire permit. #wiunion #recallwalker
I guess Governor Walker missed the key feature of a fireside chat: It's supposed to make people feel better. #wiunion
But Gov. Walker had his share of supporters on Twitter as well.
Governor Scott Walker is doing not what is easy, but rather what is right! #IStandWithScottWalker @GovWalker @VickiMcKenna @deethompsonjr
