Peyton Manning, Colts Continue Talks
But that doesn't mean a deal will get done soon.
"I would say we are simply moving ahead at a steady pace, but nothing is imminent," Polian, who recently finished his 13th season as the Colts' president, told Mike Marot of the Associated Press.
Jim Irsay, Colts owner and chief executive officer, said recently he offered Manning a deal worth more than that of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, currently the NFL's highest-paid player. Brady signed a four-year, $72 million contract in September. The Colts last week placed an exclusive franchise tag on Manning, a move that prevents him from becoming a free agent. The tag ensures Manning will earn about $23 million if the sides do not negotiate a new contract.
