Seattle's cycling mayor, Mike McGinn, was the victim of bike theft, but the unfortunate incident turned out to be doubly so for McGinn because it wasn't even his own bike -- it was his wife's.

"Peg is pissed," McGinn tweeted Wednesday evening. The mayor had ridden the bike to work earlier in the day, according to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer.

Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, seen here in 2009, has been encouraging residents to ride bikes.
"I know I've been encouraging people to ride bikes more," McGinn wrote. "but I didn't mean u could 'borrow' my wife's bike w/o asking."

(The postings have apparently been removed from Twitter.)

McGinn rode a bike to campaign events in 2009 and used the slogan "Mike bikes."

Seattle radio show host Kent Phillips promised to provide a new bike for the mayor today. The "Kent and Alan Show" on KPLZ has donated more than $250,000 worth of bikes to children.

"No child or mayor who wants a bike should be without one; that has been our mission for two decades," Phillips said in a statement.
