San Francisco Snow: Update on the Waiting Game
From the Surge Desk West Coast offices overlooking San Francisco Bay, one can practically feel the collective disappointment of residents. With the forecast calling for the first sea-level snowfall to hit the Bay Area since 1976, today's weather has brought morning rain, afternoon sun and temperatures in the upper 40s and low 50s. In other words, not a trace of snow has been seen so far.
While that could change in the coming hours, when temperatures are expected to dip into the 30s and precipitation will return, it seems now that any real chance that San Franciscans will have to see the white stuff is if they head to higher elevations in Marin, the East Bay or the Santa Cruz mountains.
While websites like Gawker have taken to mocking the giddy anticipation of a snow event that seems unlikely to materialize, hopes that flurries will fill the skies do still remain, despite the rather unremarkable way the day has unfolded so far.
Rest assured, should said snowflakes actually materialize over the next few hours, Surge Desk will run to the computer to let you know about it. Otherwise, we Bay Area residents will content ourselves with the knowledge that we're not stuck in the latest traffic nightmare born of a seemingly endless succession of snowstorms to have hit the Northeast.
