Jane Russell, the actress and sex symbol who rose to fame in the 1940s, passed away this week at the age of 89, KCOY News reported. Her many feature films included "The Outlaw," "Foxfire," "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "Gentlemen Marry Brunettes."
With her distinctive hour-glass figure, Russell was often compared to Marilyn Monroe, with whom she starred in "Gentleman Prefer Blondes." Unlike Monroe, however, she became known as much for her singing as she did for her acting.
Surge Desk offers the following look back at Russell's heyday.
