Furtado didn't indicate how she'd make the donation.
Several artists have accepted massive sums of money to perform for Gadhafi and his family in recent years, Rolling Stone reports. In 2008, R&B stars Beyonce and Usher are said to have performed at a New Year's Eve party for Gadhafi's son Muatassim, Libya's national security adviser, on the Caribbean island of St. Barts, while pop diva Mariah Carey accepted $1 million to sing at a previous New Year's bash. In 2005, 50 Cent gave a performance for Muatassim Gadhafi at a film festival.
Now pressure is on these artists to donate the money they were paid to appear at the notoriously lavish parties thrown by the Gadhafis. The Gadhafi regime, which has been facing continued anti-government protests, is accused in the deaths of at least 1,000 people in a violent crackdown as well as ordering the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103, which killed 270 people in 1988.
"Hopefully donate it to a charity that somehow assists some of the people who have suffered at the hands of that regime," was the advice Arcade Fire agent David T. Viecelli gave to the performers on Gadhafi's payroll.
