Radek Dvorak, Dennis Wideman Traded by Panthers to Division Rivals
The Panthers, last in the Southeast Division and sliding down the Eastern Conference standings, have dealt two more key players ahead of Monday's deadline. Both trades were made with Southeast Division rivals.
Forward Radek Dvorak was traded to Atlanta, while defenseman Dennis Wideman -- acquired just this past offseason from Boston in the Nathan Horton trade -- was sent to Washington.
Dvorak played 53 games for the Panthers, recording seven goals and 21 points. He also was a key part of Florida's penalty kill, and his addition should help the Thrashers -- who are flat-out bad at killing penalties -- in that area. Forwards Niclas Bergors and Patrick Rissmiller were sent to Florida. Bergfors, 23, has 29 points in 52 games, and was a key part of the Ilya Kovalchuk trade with New Jersey last year.
Wideman scored nine goals and had 31 points in 62 games for Florida, but was a minus-26. Prospect Jake Hauswirth and a third-round pick go to Florida in that trade. Hauswirth has not played in the NHL.
