The tabloids even snapped pictures of the young lovebirds reportedly leaving a hotel together the morning after.

So who is this 18-year-old interloper causing such waves in the Bieber universe? Surge Desk did some digging on Selena Gomez and found that Bieber might actually be the lucky one in this young celebrity pairing.

She has a diverse background
Gomez's father is Mexican American, while her mother is half Italian.

She also has a Disney pedigree
Like so many young pop stars, from Miley Cyrus to Britney Spears, the Disney corporation had a hand in making Gomez a sensation. She was originally cast on the Disney Channel show "Wizards of Waverly Place," before going on to take parts in films. Like other Disney pop stars before her (we're looking at you, Jonas Brothers) Gomez has sported a "purity ring" declaring her intention to stay chaste before marriage.

She's had her own share of musical success
The lead singer of the group Selena Gomez & the Scene, Gomez and Co. have racked up some impressive album sales. Both of the groups offerings to date, "Kiss & Tell" and "A Year Without Rain," have been certified gold. The video for her song "A Year Without Rain" has been viewed at YouTube some 42 million times.

She has business sense
Sold at Kmart, Gomez's "Dream Out Loud" clothing line is not her only foray into the business world beyond acting and singing. In 2008, when she was just 16, she also started up her own production company.

She's big on Twitter
