That's what Pete Burford, a retired British man in Eldersfield, Gloucestershire, discovered when he chopped down a poplar tree for firewood.

Pete and Sylvia Burford noticed the face of E.T. in a piece of wood cut from a tree.
Burford, naturally, is stumped by how the image showed up in the "E-Tree."
"It's probably just one of those things, but it so looks like E.T. I couldn't believe it," he said.
But this isn't the first alienating encounter the couple has experienced.
Burford's wife, Sylvia, had an odd experience 40 years ago.
"I saw something that had a saucer shape with a great big bright light underneath," she said.
