The Daily Caller is a news and opinion site founded by Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson and Neil Patel, former adviser to Vice President Dick Cheney. Jackson Lee did not speak to Strong on the record (or at all), so the profile is based largely on statements made by her former and current staffers, not all of them named.
While the congresswoman is a frequent target of right-wing complaints, she has also taken heat from both parties for her demanding style and political blunders, such as the time she tried (unsuccessfully) to pass a resolution honoring Michael Jackson as an international humanitarian.
Among the allegations Strong makes in his profile:
1. She gives out uncouth nicknames
An unnamed staffer told Strong that the congresswoman regularly addressed an employee as "you stupid motherf***er."
2. She keeps people waiting
A former driver described waiting "up to five to seven hours per day" for his boss. Another anonymous source said she was kept waiting more than six hours for a job interview with Rep. Jackson Lee.
3. She's in a rush
An unnamed aide said that Rep. Jackson Lee "would actually physically time you" on how long it took to run materials from the office to the House floor. Former drivers claimed the congresswoman ordered them to run red lights.
4. She loves garlic
More anonymous former staffers said they often had to fetch garlic pills for the congresswoman. "In the middle of the night, people had to go get her garlic," one said. "She'll call you at 2 in the morning for garlic because she takes them as supplements."
In unattributed remarks, Strong claims Rep. Jackson Lee "regularly asks that documents be printed in different colors" and once "demanded an aide wear a green hat when picking her up."
6. She's hoarding books
According to Strong, staffers told him the congresswoman is "a hoarder" who keeps 20 boxes of the book "Black Americans in Congress" in her office.
Strong also notes that the congresswoman has an unusually high rate of staff turnover, with 39 staffers lasting one year or less in the past decade.
Rep. Jackson Lee has not responded to the profile or its claims.
