The main feature in Mardi Gras celebrations are the many parades which are run throughout the week leading up to and on Fat Tuesday. The parades are filled with handmade, mobilized floats built by various krewes. On each float are masked individuals who toss beads and doubloons into the crowd as they pass through the streets.

Here are a few of the more notable parades which will take place on Fat Tuesday.

New Orleans, Louisiana: There are dozens of parades on Fat Tuesday in New Orleans, starting with the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club parade uptown at 8:00 a.m. Parades run throughout the city from as early as 8:00 a.m. until late in the evening. There are also plenty of Mardi Gras Marching Clubs, who start their festivities as early as 6:30 a.m. For more information on parades and parade routes, you can check out MardiGrasParadeSchedule.com.

Mobile, Alabama: Krewes have been parading through Mobile, Ala., since early February. On Fat Tuesday, there are six major parades, starting with the Order of Athena Parade at 10:30 a.m. The final parade begins at 6:30 p.m., and is named the Order of Myths Parade. View Parade Schedule.

Sydney, Australia: This past Saturday, 300,000 people lined the streets of Sydney for the 34th annual Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade. While the parade did begin this past Saturday, the parade is a two-week long festival. A complete events calendar can be found here.

Galveston, Texas: Among one of the more underrated Mardi Gras parades is Galveston, Texas. On Tuesday, you can witness the Krewe of Aquarius 16th Annual Fat Tuesday Parade, which takes place at 6:30 p.m. at The Strand. View Schedule and Information.

St. Louis, Missouri: Known famously for their pet parade, which is the largest animal parade in North America, the city also has a Light Up the Night Fat Tuesday Parade which marches through downtown St. Louis. The parade begins at 7:00 p.m. at the corner of Washington and Broadway.
